Real London and Fictional London
The Tabitha & Wolf mysteries mix real late-Victorian locations with fictional addresses and institutions. Places such as the Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Brick Lane and many London neighbourhoods are real. Other locations, including private residences created for the series, are fictional but placed within real areas of London so that the geography of the investigations remains grounded in the city.
London in the Series
The map stretches across several very different Londons, each with its own social rules, risks and possibilities.
Mayfair & St James’s
The centre of Tabitha and Wolf’s aristocratic world: grand houses, garden squares, clubs, fashionable streets and the social geography of wealth and rank.
On the map: Hanover Square and the area surrounding the fictional Chesterton House, along with locations connected to London’s elite society.
West End & South Kensington
Theatres, concert halls, museums and fashionable public spaces provide a very different sort of stage for murder, scandal and investigation.
The City of London
Commercial and financial London, where counting houses, old wards, business records and inherited money create motives very different from those of Mayfair society.
The East End
Brick Lane, Whitechapel and surrounding neighbourhoods bring the series into working-class London, immigrant communities, policing, mission work and the city’s criminal underworld.
